A Comunicação é um processo decisivo para a definição das Culturas e a criação de Comunidades. É neste triângulo que se exprimem, hoje, muitas das preocupações desencadeados pelas dinâmicas de interação tão mobilizadas pela rápida e vertiginosa evolução tecnológica. Por isso, “Comunicação, Culturas e Comunidades” é o tema central do XIII Congresso da Sopcom, Associação Portuguesa de Ciências da Comunicação, que o Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade (CECS) da Universidade do Minho está a organizar.
Num livro em que defendem a proposta de uma comunicação radical como forma de “recuperação do essencial da comunicação”, Manuel Chaparro e Susana Andrès reconhecem que o sistema da comunicação é o centro da cultura: “com ele dirigem-se ideias, conflitos, factos, o nutriente humano de ideias e interpretações, que se reciclam num contínuo feedback” (Andrès & Chaparro, 2022, p. 25). Relativamente à cultura, como à comunidade, a comunicação tem, na verdade, implicações de duplo sentido: espelha-as, ao mesmo tempo que as constitui.
