A sessão acerca da Comunicação e Política teve como principal objetivo discutir diferentes perspectivas, assim como analisar diversas figuras mediáticas representativas de movimentos populistas.
Os cinco intervenientes da sessão, vindos de instituições diferentes, apresentaram as suas análises a comunicações públicas dessas mesmas figuras, sendo André Ventura e Jair Bolsonaro os alvos da grande maioria dos estudos.
Numa primeira fase fez-se uma pequena introdução ao tema do Populismo, focando-se, mais especificamente no discurso de ódio islamofóbico e a retórica do partido CHEGA. Foi apresentada uma análise a posts do deputado André Ventura na rede social X. Ainda sobre o líder do partido de extrema direita, Catarina Magalhães, da Universidade de Coimbra, abordou a construção da personagem “André Ventura” na revista E. Expôs a forma mediática como o político se associou à cultura de ‘português do bem’ e como utilizou a vitimização infantil e o sucesso académico como uma crença no seu discurso.
Janara Sousa, da Universidade de Brasília, teve como principal foco o discurso de ódio político-ideológico da extrema-direita de Jair Bolsonaro. Centrou-se na análise de todos os discursos públicos obrigatórios do ex-presidente do Brasil. Augusto Soares da Silva, da Universidade Católica, abordou as diferentes metáforas polarizantes em posts de Jair Bolsonaro. Com a identificação e análise das mesmas, o interveniente concluiu que estas foram eficientes na campanha política.
Pedro Pinto de Oliveira, do Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra, foi o interveniente que procurou debater o diálogo existente entre a extrema-direita de Brasil e Portugal. Através de entrevistas a diferentes investigadores da área, o palestrante recolheu informações sobre a inexistência da moralidade reflexiva em movimentos populistas.
A audiência mostrou-se bastante interessada e com vontade de discutir os diferentes temas apresentados. Da discussão final surgiram algumas propostas de melhoramento e enriquecimento dos estudos expostos. A moderação da sessão foi feita por Hélder Prior.
